Whatever it is, I know that I can trust Jen to not only listen to my concerns, but also to actually work with me to address and problem solve.
It is unfair to Jennifer just to provide one example of her extraordinary actions. What makes Jen an extraordinary nurse is her ability to pull the team together and function as one fluid unit, especially when situations in our department have been tense for quite some time. She always had the ability to work with each one of us to ask what our problems or needs were and what she could do to alleviate the stressors so that we could focus on our patient and come together as a group to provide the best patient care. Sometimes it would be as simple as changing roles during a case so that I could chart and she would take care of the multiple specimens. Sometimes it would be a more complex solution such as arranging staffing so we had the appropriate amount of staff in the room to provide safe and quality patient care. Whatever it is, I know that I can trust Jen to not only listen to my concerns, but also to actually work with me to address and problem solve. I also know I can rely on Jen to always physically be there and lend a helping hand. She has an amazing knowledge base and frequently critically thinks about our cases and any unforeseen circumstances we may encounter. Due to this ability, she frequently stays after hours to help the team with difficult add-on cases. One case in particular comes to mind. In short, we had a complication and I urgently had to go from circulation to scrubbing in to assist. All it took was for me to give Jen one look as I ran out of the room to scrub and she knew what to do. As I barked a laundry list of supplies I needed for the case, she stepped in to be the circulator. I needed to open supplies, count, and assist anesthesia. Simply put, Jen is amazing and I am so lucky to have her with our team. Thank you Jen!
