From the beginning, I felt that Christina took my progress personally, which motivated me to do my best.
When I first returned home after my heart surgery, I suffered from a lot of anxiety. I had never been seriously sick before, so this was something new to me. I worried about what I could do, what I could eat, and about what the future held for me. Eventually, I signed up for the cardiac rehab classes. Christina Leong was assigned to be my case manager and teacher. From the first day I arrived in class, Christina's good sense of humor and confident disposition caused me to relax a bit and feel that things might be all right after all. Christina seemed to know at the outset which workout machines would be best for me, and she proved correct every time. Christina frequently checked up on me, offering advice if I was having trouble and praising me if I was getting right. From the beginning, I felt that Christina took my progress personally, which motivated me to do my best. One day, when I was absent from class, I had an appointment with my regular doctor. To my surprise, Christina phoned me and suggested I ask my doctor to supply me with a walker. (I had fallen several times in class, and Christina was worried I might fall at home.) I never did get the walker, but was impressed that Christina would be concerned about my welfare even though I was not in class that day. When the 16 week course finally ended, I returned to my apartment with a schedule carefully prepared by Christina, of exercise which ones to do and when. I also gained a lot of confidence from the weeks of classes. What a difference from the first time I returned home. I credit Christina Leong with significantly improving the quality of my life and shall be eternally grateful to her for that.
