She has devoted 20 years to nursing at Jefferson, focusing on compassionate care, active mentoring, role modeling, advocating for patients and the community, and promoting a positive image of nursing.
Mary Beth Edger, DNP, MHA, RN, NEA-BC, Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services & Chief Nursing Officer at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Inc., deserves the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award. She has devoted 20 years to nursing at Jefferson, focusing on compassionate care, active mentoring, role modeling, advocating for patients and the community, and promoting a positive image of nursing.

Dr. Edger leads three hospitals under Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Inc., including Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience, and Jefferson Methodist Hospital. She also holds a joint appointment as a volunteer faculty member at Jefferson College of Nursing (JCN). In 2023, Dr. Edger received the JCN Distinguished Alumni Award.

Dr. Edger has spearheaded numerous initiatives to enhance nursing operations and patient care services, resulting in improved patient outcomes and a better work environment. Under her leadership, TJUHs attained a 4th ANCC Magnet® re-designation with four exemplars. She also supported the application process for three critical care units at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, all of which received the AACN Beacon Award – Gold Level.

Dr. Edger provided critical executive leadership during the peaks of the COVID-19 pandemic, the subsequent surges, and the continued recovery period. She has been a strong advocate for staff safety and workplace violence prevention. She has been an executive sponsor for crucial system initiatives, including value analysis and the care team model redesign.

Dr. Edger is the past Secretary of the Board for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Leaders. She is also an officer on the Jeffex Board at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals and served as a member of the advisory committee for Mercy Life from 2002 to 2023.
