Catherine worked diligently to provide excellent care to her patient J during his many long admissions on our BMT unit. She was ALWAYS patient and kind with him and his family during a time when it was extremely difficult to be their nurse. She went out of her way to show them love and support, and I believe she is a DAISY Nurse for this alone. However, it was her care for him while he was actively dying that was profound for me to observe. J was admitted in severe pain and dying. I have been a nurse for many years, and stepping into that room to be a second set of eyes for Catherine was overwhelming. I was in there for a few minutes and felt exhausted and humbled while Catherine worked extras to be there for him and his family for many days in a row. She was an AMAZING advocate for him, allowing him to get to a space of comfort and peace. When he was admitted, he looked like he would die in hours to days, but Catherine's advocacy and hard work gave him weeks of comfort and love surrounded by his family. I cannot express enough what a gift Catherine was to this patient and family. Catherine's compassion and patience were an honor to witness. I am proud to work alongside her.

This family I described was extremely challenging to work with and rarely openly expressed gratitude. This is all the more reason why I feel that Catherine deserves to be recognized for the compassion and excellent nursing care she provided this patient and family.
