Donna always demonstrates professionalism in every aspect of her role.
Donna is an invaluable asset to our teams. We would be lost without her passion and knowledge. When we asked the team to describe Donna, these were just a few characteristics mentioned: kindhearted, approachable, funny, compassionate, great listener, resource, positive, flexible, supportive, patient, knowledgeable and passionate.

Donna has responsibility for P5 and 6 Tower, but that does not stop Donna from helping any team within our facilities. Donna is consistently offering her knowledge and support not only to her two units but also to P4, Cancer Treatment, and Physical Therapy. Donna builds strong working relationships with all she works with, from nursing to ancillary departments to outside contacts, to make patient care the best. Donna has worked to build a relationship with a representative at Price Chopper so that our newly diagnosed diabetic patients have the supplies they need at the time of discharge.

Donna continually goes above and beyond to support staff so they can deliver safe, quality patient care. Donna has a way of creating a safe environment for staff so that they are always comfortable to say, "Hey, I need help," or "Hey, I don't understand." Donna is always there to assist in helping them, whether it be a piece of equipment, a procedure, or just to help think through a clinical issue. She will help staff as many times as they need. She has done multiple peritoneal dialysis in-services to assist staff in working through the process. She never makes any colleague feel as though they should not ask for help. Donna attends unit staff meetings not only to introduce upcoming educational opportunities, but to also check in with colleagues for any learning needs.

She is so supportive of our new graduates, working with each of them as they navigate the orientation process, which includes the Vizient program, skills day, and the EKG course. Donna adapts her teaching methods to meet the needs of our colleagues, as we know not everyone learns in the same way. Donna always makes herself available to help in many ways, coming in insanely early to ensure the night staff have all the resources they need to care for our patients. She flexes her schedule to meet the needs of our colleagues continually. We were struggling with a few PCTs and cross-training them for phlebotomy because the classes were while they were in school, and we asked if she would do an evening class. Donna did not hesitate; she said, "of course," and schedule an evening class that next week.

The dialysis has big changes happening, and Donna has rearranged her schedule to ensure she is there for the walk-through and that this change goes smoothly. These are just a couple of examples of Donna's commitment to continually supporting our staff with education needs and process help. She answers calls, texts, emails continually and has never responded I can't help it is always what can I do for you. She is a staff and patient advocate always striving to make processes more efficient for our colleagues, so they have the time to give to our patients.

She is passionate about new ideas and committed to learning. She is continually looking for ways to make life better for our staff and our patients. We had a bad outcome on P5 and needed to participate in a root cause and Donna was right there by our side to support and offer amazing ideas to improve processes so we can improve patient care. Donna has also led 6 Tower through the new Virtual Nurse Program. She has committed many hours to ensuring the 6 Tower team had a strong understanding of the new process and continually asked for feedback so she could assist in ensuring the colleagues on 6 Tower knew she was there for them to help make this a successful team and our patients. She continues to support the 6 Tower staff as they continue to work out the kinks with this new program. She approaches each issue with a smile and a positive attitude even when she hits bumps along the way. She leads by example and continually looks for good in all situations. Donna works on an issue/process until it's resolved. She is always one step ahead of us in her thinking. She is a problem solver; she looks at issues from many different angles to come up with the best solution.

Donna always demonstrates professionalism in every aspect of her role. She wears many hats in her role on P5 and 6 Tower and somehow manages to keep a smile on her face and lead our teams through challenging times. In our eyes, Donna is an extraordinary Nurse Educator always!
