On top of being technically amazing, her presence is so warm and oozing with compassion. She makes you feel safe and cared for.
I would like to thank my nurse Toni from the 6th floor I was admitted to the hospital in the middle of the night for high fevers and Covid. I had just been discharged the same day after being on the 1st floor for 5 days for pain control. My 1st night was very difficult. I was burning up! I was so uncomfortable. My IV was beeping for hours & my fever was rising. I called my nurse continuously with no answer. I felt so scared and alone that I actually called my sister to come back and help me. She came back and got me through the night. Already exhausted from my previous stay, I thought this was going to be so hard to get through. Then, there was a shift change, and Toni came in. Within 2 minutes, I knew I was going to be okay. She had clearly read my chart and was up to speed on what I had been through. She was so on top of my scheduled medicines and was awesome at guiding me on times for medicines that needed to be requested. She quickly remembered my quirks, like no cold water and yogurt with my pills, and didn't make me feel like a bother to them. She read through my My Chart notes with me and helped me understand them. She even wrote my lab results on the whiteboard for me so I could remember all my questions for the doctor. I know nurses are extremely busy, but she has a gift of not making it feel that way when she's in your room. I could tell she was on my team when it came to discharge, and I feel like she would have advocated for me if I wasn't comfortable leaving. She ran to the pharmacy to get my medication for me at discharge. She is phenomenal at what she does! On top of being technically amazing, her presence is so warm and oozing with compassion. She makes you feel safe and cared for. She is so fun to chat with as well! She's like the nursing total package. I kept wishing I would have had her when I was downstairs in the worst pain of my life! All in all, I was admitted for 7 days, and I met a lot of nurses and had some great care, but Toni just stood out of the crowd. I will remember her as part of this wild experience I had, and for all these reasons, I would like to nominate her for this award.
