Andrea showed great compassion and empathy during a difficult time with my father. During my dad’s stay in the ICU, Andrea stood out to not only myself but my mother especially. My mother was alone at times during my dad’s stay due to my brothers and I being away. However, Andrea gave my mom a sense of peace knowing she was the nurse of my dad. My mother expressed that Andrea would patiently explain all the medications, IVs, procedures, and results to my mom in Spanish and broke it down in laymen’s terms.
Unfortunately, my father needed to be intubated. Andrea comforted my mother and explained that this was required to save his life. My mother was terrified, but Andrea showed compassion and helped my mom during this time. When I called the unit to get an update of my dad’s condition, I quickly understood my mother on how Andrea would patiently explain the whole situation with my father. I felt at peace being gone but knowing she was my dad’s nurse that he would be greatly taken care of.
My mother also shared that even when Andrea was not my dad’s primary nurse, she was attentive to my dad’s monitors and IV medications and would quickly come into the room and attend to my dad. She was never too busy to help my mother with anything that she needed. Andrea was quick to act when my dad condition deteriorated to quickly call the doctor and grab the supplies for intubation. My family are extremely grateful for Andrea’s quick acting to save my father. Now that my dad is on the path to recovery, my family is thankful to Andrea and her skills as a nurse to save my dad. She was a hero to my family, and we are eternally grateful for her.
