I observed managers celebrate the successes of their staff as well as worry for them and hurt with them. I see managers collaborate with one another on a daily basis-come together, with problem-solving, support, and just enough humor to push them through a tough day here and there.
The DAISY Foundation aims to honor nurses who go above and beyond to not only provide patients and families with excellence in clinical care, but also compassion. The team of IP managers comes together every day to do just this and more. During these times of change and operational alignment, the IP Manager team serves their staff in a multitude of ways. The managers are problem solvers, clinical experts, marketing specialists, and cheerleaders, and they are strong and steady yet caring and compassionate. The Managers jump in to take team assignments and share the load. They work tirelessly on staffing conundrums and magically arrive at reasonable solutions. The managers respond to change with grace and approach the change with reason and enthusiasm. I observed managers demonstrate the utmost compassion for the families of their patients, advocate for the families, and support them through their frustration, their grief, and often the weariness that follows watching a loved one be vulnerable. I observed managers celebrate the successes of their staff as well as worry for them and hurt with them. I see managers collaborate with one another on a daily basis-come together, with problem-solving, support, and just enough humor to push them through a tough day here and there. I know the team of Inpatient Managers deserves this recognition because they go above and beyond in forward-facing and behind-the-scenes work where they create an environment where their team can be successful - all with little recognition, little glory, and few accolades. They do their best work because they believe in their staff, they believe in the organization, and they believe that the care we provide is special... just like them.
