My husband, G, and I would like to nominate Heather Daly for the DAISY Award. During G's four day stay in the hospital, all of his nurses were wonderful. Heather, however, provided both of us with exceptional support and care!
 
G had been taken by ambulance to the ER three times in four months with breathing problems. Both his trips ended up with him being admitted with double pneumonia. During this most recent hospitalization, not only was he feeling bad and exhausted, but I believe he was starting to get depressed. He had emphysema, and we both were concerned with why he was having the recurring pneumonia. Was this to become part of his future?
 
Heather was G's nurse on his third day.  I got to his room around lunchtime and found him talking and laughing with Heather. (Note: G is happiest when he is playfully giving someone a hard time and making them laugh.) Even though he was joking with Heather, he was listening to what she was telling him. She explained how important keeping him hydrated was for his recovery. She also wanted him to sit up in a chair instead of lying on his back for long periods of time. Once again, she gave the reasons for doing so, and we both really appreciated the extra time Heather spent with us. G felt comfortable enough with her to ask questions that he hadn't asked anyone else. She put us both at ease, showed us that she truly cared, and provided us with knowledge that helped with G's recovery at home. 
 
I saw G make a turn-around in both his physical and mental health the day Heather was his nurse. Laughter was good medicine for him! To Heather, nursing is definitely more than just a job! I am sure she blesses all her patients with her passionate care!
