One of the bullet points under ‘Selection Criteria’ for the DAISY Lifetime Achievement reads, “serves as a role model and advocate for nursing practice and the advancement of nursing as a professional.” I cannot think of a better way to describe Jackie’s career.
While it is difficult to summarize all of Jackie’s achievements over the course of her career with our organization, we at Brookwood Baptist Health are immensely thankful that she came and provided clinical leadership, helping our hospital achieve greatness in a post-pandemic era. Jackie’s experience, commitment, work ethic, and compassion proved invaluable in guiding us through challenging times, and we are significantly better today because of her efforts. Her legacy will continue to live on in the numerous individuals she hired and mentored throughout her career.
Jackie’s nursing career began in 1979 in the Brookwood Medical Center Labor and Delivery Department. With a fierce determination and an unmatched work ethic, she steadily climbed the nursing career ladder from there. In her time with Brookwood, she has served as the Vice President of Women’s Services and the Chief Nursing Officer. In 2022, she became the Group Chief Nursing Officer of the entire Brookwood Baptist Health System, overseeing nursing operations at five Central Alabama hospitals.
Outside of work, Jackie has served as the president of the Alabama Organization for Nursing Leadership and is certified in Executive Nursing Practice.
The DAISY Award has been incredibly important to Jackie, and she has spearheaded a commitment to using it to recognize excellence in our organization. Over the last couple of years, we’ve recognized so many nurses for outstanding service to our patients and to our organization. Having led the way on those, I am honored to now nominate Jackie for the award she has bestowed upon so many.

She has mentored and advised countless young nurses throughout the years. She has undoubtedly had a widespread and time-tested impact on the profession of nursing and the healthcare community of Birmingham.
A truly transformational nursing leader, Jackie is supremely deserving of this recognition, and we are thrilled to celebrate it with her as she moves on from an outstanding career.
