We had a patient who is disabled from a birth injury; he can say some words but is very limited and confined to a bed; while he comes in frequently, he does not have visitors. Jessica noted his birthday and stopped before work to purchase party supplies, a birthday hat, a sign for the door, and balloons. My office is directly across from the patient room, and I overheard Jessica lovingly placing his balloons in his view and explaining how everything was just for him. You could hear the excitement in his voice as he watched the balloons sway in the breeze of the a/c. Later that night, she returned to his room and quietly sang "Happy Birthday". Jessica exhibits all the qualities that only the best nurses have. This act deeply touched me and inspired me to be better. I am so proud to work with Jessica. She is an inspiration to us all.
