Jessica is the ultimate epitome of what all VA providers should be. She does not follow and say, "That's not my patient," but sets the example by saying, "That's our Veteran. What does he need?"
To identify Jessica as one element of the VA's I-CARE values is not recognizing Jessica for the care that she bestows to our Veterans and their families. She encompasses all the I-CARE values in her work for our Veterans.

The greatest example of her devotedness to the I-CARE values can be observed in her interactions with one Veteran and his wife. We had a Veteran who had fallen off his PACT Team's panel. He had been relatively healthy but became ill and hospitalized. Post-hospitalization, he was admitted to inpatient rehab. The family was looking at catastrophic medical bills. We needed to get this Veteran reestablished with the VA so we could assist him and his family in providing care. Jessica was reached out to because of her long-term knowledge of the VA by a peer.  She could have easily just answered a question and moved on, but not Jessica.

Jessica is the ultimate epitome of what all VA providers should be. She does not follow and say, "That's not my patient," but sets the example by saying, "That's our Veteran. What does he need?"

Jessica worked hard to help the Veteran get reestablished with a primary care provider by setting up VVC appointments to get him re-established.   Jessica’s INTEGRITY is one of high morals in serving those who have served our great country.  Her COMMITMENT to work diligently to get our Veteran what they needed by working around hospital admissions and dialysis treatments has not gone unnoticed.  Jessica’s ADOVACY by maintaining the integrity of both the VA and the Veteran by appropriately offering services within the scope of the directives and still getting the Veteran what he needed.   She showed RESPECT to the Veteran and his spouse by providing unwavering service to accomplish what he needed. And finally, Jessica’s EXCELLENCE in not looking at the Veteran as "a patient, their patient, Jessica’s patient" was absolutely recognized by their overwhelming duty to show reverence for the Veteran's service to our country.

Jessica played a major role in helping this Veteran and more than set an example of what an amazing nurse does for those that they serve.

It is with the greatest gratitude and respect that I nominate Jessica Beerup for the John J. Pershing VA DAISY Award.
