We came into the ER with my five-year-old daughter after being told her labs showed she had high blood sugar. This was a new onset with no history of diabetes. We were scared and emotional.

Lisa Bloxham came in as our nurse, and she was amazing. She explained everything she was going to do in detail, and she really put us at ease with the situation. She was very calm and compassionate.

When the doctor came in and told us my daughter was now over 700 for her blood sugar, and she was in DKA, it was terrifying. The doctor had said that we would be life-flighted to Primary Children’s Hospital in Utah, and the team was on their way, but there were some things we had to do first.

Lisa came in and went straight to work, making sure everything was done. She never missed explaining a step. We knew everything she was doing and why she was doing it. I really appreciated that. She would get down to eye level and talk to my daughter in the calmest voice, and it really helped.

Lisa is a very hardworking, caring, and compassionate nurse. She also made sure I knew that it was not my fault this had happened. She did more than take care of my daughter; she took care of us, too. She is truly an amazing nurse, and I know she went above and beyond when caring for us.

I am thankful we got to have her as our nurse that day.
