she ensured that all other patients on the floor received the top-notch care they deserved and did not allow anything to fall through the cracks.
Gail Murray has dedicated countless years to serving her patients with services including transplant surgery, thoracic surgery, and more. There are numerous stories that come to mind for why Gail deserves recognition, but the most recent is her management as a charge nurse in the transplant ICU the night that EJGH's first liver transplant was performed. Gail's experience and expertise guided the team throughout the night, and I firmly believe that the patient would not have survived without her help. She guided nurses and residents alike through system-based critical care, managing ventilator settings, multiple pressors, and mass transfusion of blood products. Gail maintained a constant line of communication with the patient's family, assuring they were fully aware of the night's events and offering caring reassurance. She frequently checked in on other nurses to ensure that their needs were met and that they were fully supported throughout the night. All the while, she ensured that all other patients on the floor received the top-notch care they deserved and did not allow anything to fall through the cracks. That patient ultimately recovered well and was safely discharged home. Gail's proficiency as both a bedside ICU nurse and charge was invaluable that night, and we have her to thank for shepherding us through a groundbreaking first liver transplant here at EJGH. There are hundreds more stories one could tell about Gail, and I feel that her consistent dedication makes her the ideal candidate for this award.
