Taylor's leadership has fostered what I truly believe to be some of the most compassionate, creative, competent, and caring nurses that we have at Bronson and our patients receive better care each and every day because of her leadership.
I have had the opportunity to work with Taylor Jones, RN who is the nurse manager for the neurocritical care unit, for many years now. There are many events that I could use to highlight how she has led and shaped the neurocritical care unit into the wonderful place that it is today, but one particular situation comes to mind. We recently took care of a young gentleman for quite a long time in our ICU.  He suffered multiple complications and setbacks during his stay. There wasn’t a single person on the unit that wasn’t frustrated by the course of his illness during his stay. Despite everyone’s very best efforts he continued to accumulate more issues. Understandably this frustrated our patient’s mother the most. Sadly, she began to take out her frustration on our staff nurses and it created an environment in which no one was particularly eager to want to take care of him each shift, knowing the difficulties from his mother that they would encounter. Taylor intervened by checking on staff each day to provide extra support to those caring for our patient. She met countless times with his mother, many times at off-work hours, and implemented daily rounding with his mother to address any issues she had perceived with his care in real-time. This dramatically improved interactions between the staff nurses and his mother and I believe ultimately lead to an improved outcome for him. At the conclusion, his mother was very thankful for the care he had received, and I was incredibly thankful for the leadership and skill with which Taylor was able to handle the situation and energize her team to continue providing an exceptionally high level of care in a less-than-ideal scenario. Aside from this particular scenario, my favorite leadership attribute of Taylor is her problem-solving abilities. She never gets stuck. She is always looking for a better way and never gives up. This provides an incredible framework for her staff nurses to see and emulate. If your leader never gives up, it inspires every person working with them to approach problems in the same way. Taylor's leadership has fostered what I truly believe to be some of the most compassionate, creative, competent, and caring nurses that we have at Bronson and our patients receive better care each and every day because of her leadership.
