When we left P’s side for the evening, we knew that we were leaving her in the care of her guardian angel, Maddie.  My family and I could not have asked for a more competent, compassionate, and considerate caregiver.
My wife, P, and I were vacationing with family in Sedona, where P suffered a tragic injury.  She was airlifted to Flagstaff Memorial Hospital.  When we arrived at the STICU, we were introduced to Madison “Maddie” Miller, the RN assigned to P’s care.  Maddie got to work quickly setting up P’s care, quietly working around us as we stayed at P’s bedside.  Once settled, Maddie constantly checked on P and our family for the next couple of days.  She was the calm and confident presence in the room.  She was able to answer our questions as to medication and pain management for P and quickly summoned doctors so that we could discuss the next steps and our concerns.  She kept P comfortable and treated her with such gentleness, compassion, and respect.  Maddie always checked to see if there was anything else she could do for the family as we kept vigil. When we left P’s side for the evening, we knew that we were leaving her in the care of her guardian angel, Maddie.  My family and I could not have asked for a more competent, compassionate, and considerate caregiver.  Although we encountered other “rock stars” in the STICU, Maddie Miller’s star shined the brightest.

Our family is eternally thankful and grateful for not only the care Maddie provided for our beloved P, but for our family as well. Maddie went above and beyond her role as a nurse.  As we reflect back on P’s final days, Maddie’s genuine care, comfort, and support will be part of the story of our family finding peace and consolation in an unbearable situation.
