All my life, I've been a hard worker; one full of grit and fully immersed in expanding my work ethic. As a result, I choose to surround myself with individuals who strive to uphold themselves to the same standards or work beyond their fullest potential. Amber Long is just that. I have witnessed this nurse go above and beyond for her patients daily. To say she is a great nurse is an understatement; she's exceptional. Amber seeks quick affirmative action. She considers the needs of her patients and advocates appropriately for them. She implements innovative care that is both safe and effective for the patient. Amber was assigned as a triage nurse for one shift. An ambulatory patient came into the waiting room with complaints of post-operative complications accompanied by difficulty swallowing/chewing. Amber took action by performing her across-the-room assessment and appropriately triaging the patient for airway concerns. She noted the patient's wheezing with potential stridor, which was not evident prior to the patient's laryngoscope procedure the day before. Amber proceeded to relay the patient acuity level to the charge nurse/provider and room the patient quickly for concerns of airway management. The patient was seen by ENT expeditiously and admitted; therefore, avoiding any potential for an airway adjunct. Just like a daisy in the sun, Amber encourages growth among her co-workers through her daily actions, clinical competency, and judgment. I am not only proud to know Amber but proud to call her my exceptional co-worker who has allowed my nursing practice to evolve and flourish.
