Keri Martinez received a patient from Endoscopy. The procedural nurse reported that the patient had a leaking biliary drain and not to be alarmed. They continued to explain that they reinforced the dressing around it twice throughout the procedure and the night nurse had changed it multiple times as well. This did not sit well with Keri. The patient’s skin around the drain was compromised from the continued drainage. She continued to investigate his situation and provided proper care to the drain and surrounding skin. She reached out to several doctors in IR in order to get someone to address the leak. Her slot neighbor was also active in these efforts. Eventually, they were able to get a doctor to the bedside to assess the patient, but ultimately, the decision was made to attempt to fix the drain another day. Not only did Keri fight effortlessly to provide exemplary care for this patient, but the compassion she demonstrated the entire time he was in her care was truly touching. I know her patient appreciated his time with her, and I’m confident he is better for it as well.
