Lori Tom, RN has worked at AHNB for over 20 years. She's worked in ICU, school nursing and Same Day Surgery. For the past several years she has been the charge nurse for SDS. Lori does so much in her role as a charge nurse. She does all of the staff scheduling, orders supplies, coordinates surgeries with OR and PACU, coordinates with physicians and their offices, disseminates new procedures & information, etc.

Lori is an amazing nurse. She cares deeply for her patients and coworkers. She is an excellent listener. We once had a situation where we had to deliver some difficult news to a patient in preop. Our patient was crying and very upset. Lori was able to comfort our patient during this time. She sat down with her, listened, and talked with her until the patient was feeling better. Lori's ability to comfort patients is a special gift.

When any of her coworkers are dealing with difficult issues, Lori is always checking on them and making sure they are okay. She does thoughtful things for her coworkers, like giving candy and gifts on holidays and always has a candy stash for days when we need it. She makes sure we all get to attend family events (especially for our children) and has covered shifts for us so we can be present.

Lori is our "go to" nurse because she either knows the answer or can figure it out. She's the nurse we call for difficult IVs because she's the best. She is completely dedicated to her job and profession. She has even worked on her weekends off when needed. She came in when the tornado hit our hospital and when we had community water outages that affected the hospital.

Lori serves on the Nurse Practice Council at AHNB as secretary and has helped facilitate many changes. She recently completed her CNCP application for the leadership track for the Spring 2024 program. Not only does she work full time, but she is also active in her church and community in many ways. We are grateful for her and couldn't ask for a better nurse and leader in our department.
