We had a baby delivered to a first-time mom who suffered a devastating illness prior to delivery. The mother was rushed to our facility, and the baby was born at 34 weeks of gestational age in the Neuro ICU while the mother of the baby fought for her life. My nursing team, once the baby was stable, would bring the baby up to visit the mother in the Neuro ICU so she could experience Kangaroo care with her newborn baby. Shaina Cherian RN and Katie Hartigan RNC were two of those nurses involved with taking the baby to her mom. Shaina and Katie developed a bond with the family and the father of the baby. Their hearts were broken seeing the mother so debilitated from her illness. They supported the father in learning to love, feed, and comfort his newborn baby without the support of his wife. When Shaina and Katie learned that the family was running a "Go fund me" to raise money to support care for the family they immediately thought that the NICU team could help. The father was so gracious for the support. After the girls left the home, he texted them, "Thank you so much, ladies. The love and generosity from you and the entire NICU is truly overwhelming!! Ty so much!!"
