I have been a nurse for 42 years and am a retired Chief Clinical Officer. I have extremely high expectations of nurses. Many nurses are good, but DAISY nurses are extraordinary. I had the pleasure of observing Chris provide extraordinary care for my mother-in-law on the night shift and he is the epitome of a DAISY nurse. He was professional, skillful, compassionate, funny, engaging and went the extra mile to meet all my mother-in-law's needs and exceed expectations. While one employee told us pillows were in short supply and couldn't be found, Chris searched and found extra pillows and warm blankets to assist with positioning for comfort. While one employee told us they were sorry the cafeteria was closed and we couldn't get coffee, Chris miraculously brought coffee to my mother-in-law in the middle of the night. When he had to draw blood, he engaged my 86-year-old mother-in-law in storytelling and had her laughing - she didn't even flinch. When he took out her catheter, he was very disarming and when my mother-in-law couldn't urinate, and it had to be put back in, he was reassuring that this was common and relieved her anxiety. I know he was very busy, but he never rushed her - he made her feel like she was the only patient he had, and he had all the time in the world to listen to her talk, tell stories and answer all her questions. My mother-in-law hit the jackpot in having Chris care for her every need.
