Emily Su provided extraordinary care for our pre-term baby, J. Because of this, we requested her to be his primary nurse while in the NICU. Visiting him on the night shift, we witnessed Emily caring for our baby with attention to details regarding his specific needs. This was only the foundation of the care received! Being first-time parents and surprised by an arrival six weeks earlier than expected, my husband and I were anxious and had much to learn to take care of our precious and tiny son. We did not even have a name yet for our boy for the first few days in the hospital! Emily was so patient with all of us – demonstrating and teaching how we could feed, burp, diaper change, and more. She had the idea of showing a black and white picture of my husband and I at the top of J’s isolette so that he might begin to get to know us better and feel our company even in the time we couldn’t be present in the NICU. She made us a sweet placard of his footprints and his name when we finally narrowed it down a few days before he left the NICU. She thought of so many details for our baby as a special individual right from the very start. For all these reasons, we witnessed Emily as the whole package of the very best that a nurse can be – smart, professional, empathetic, kind, and supportive. Emily most certainly contributed to our very positive experience of J’s first few weeks in the world, even while NICU life can be a challenge. We are grateful for these fond memories that demonstrate such compassionate care.
