Olga Ederer recently suffered one of the hardest losses that someone could go through with the passing of her husband a few months ago. The reason I would like to nominate her is because recently, Olga and I had a patient whose family was coming to terms and grips with having to put their mother on hospice care. Despite the nursing supervisor also being involved and helping the family understand what their options were, Olga was also right there supporting them, sharing her own personal experiences of having to recently begin hospice care for a loved one as well.
Despite the pain and emotions this was bringing back up for her, she was as professional and caring as any nurse I’ve ever seen, which in seven years of working on the floors with nurses from ER to ICU, was top-notch. I can only wish that I had a nurse with as much compassion and caring when I had to put my own mother into hospice several years ago as Olga, for I think the process would have been a lot easier and helpful to go through with someone like Olga in my corner.
