Danielle sat down and told me that I was a "warrior." I had survived more than this, and it was treatable.
Danielle made all the difference in my care. From the minute I was admitted, she made me feel comfortable physically and emotionally. When she gave me medication, she checked back to make sure it worked. If it didn't, she took measures to connect with the doctors and get me something that would. I get very anxious in the hospital, but Danielle's clear explanations of my care, her calm, supportive attitude, and her desire to connect and communicate with me and my family helped to ease that anxiety. It's hard, as a patient, to be sick and be your own advocate. Danielle developed trust, so I never had to worry about what was happening. She was my advocate, and I'm grateful for her compassion.

On my last day in the hospital, I was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. I have never drank, and it felt like one more thing on top of my other health issues. As I was thinking about it, Danielle stopped to check on me and immediately asked, "What's wrong?" I started to cry and told her I was worried about the cirrhosis. Danielle sat down and told me that I was a "warrior." I had survived more than this, and it was treatable. The time she took to recognize when I needed encouragement and provide it means more to me as a patient than almost anything.
