I have worked closely with Eileen McMaster for almost ten years. It is hard to put into words the extent of her leadership, knowledge, compassion, and caring. Throughout that timeframe, Eileen has been a constant support to both patients, providers, and nursing staff. She is a considerate and compassionate nurse. She steps in to offload the burden on her staff whenever needed. There have been many weekends while covering that I have been able to reach out to Eileen for guidance to arrange procedures for Monday to prevent any scheduling issues or patient care delays. She is a team player; she is an excellent communicator. She is not afraid to stand up for patients and staff when she knows something that is not safe is being promoted. There have been many times where I have witnessed providers trying to promote situations that would not be in the best interest of the patient (rearranging procedure times for provider convenience) where Eileen has stood her ground and helped facilitate a solution that puts the patient first. Despite all of these attributes, she remains humble. Our department would be lost without Eileen.
