Though Terri’s work experience was mainly in the field of Oncology, she was able to successfully teach herself Critical Care and become an educator in various areas, including 3N, the ICU, the ED, and the Cardiac Cath lab.
Terri Yannaco has been working in the Nursing profession for the past 50 years in various roles from staff RN to Patient Care Coordinator, Nursing Supervisor, Program Coordinator, Clinical Nurse Manager, Consultant, Director, Adjunct Professor and most recently as Nurse Educator here at NYP Westchester for the past 10 years.
Terri started her education in an Associate degree program, continuing with her Bachelor's, master's, and Doctorate degrees. She obtained certification in Oncology and as a Clinical Nurse Leader. Terri has also been recognized over the years for her strong leadership skills and ability clearly present new information to staff through storytelling or lived experiences.
As an educator here at NYP Lawrence/ Westchester, Terri has been the go-to person in Nursing Education for all topics. From BLS to balloon pumps, Terri can provide an answer to any question! Though Terri’s work experience was mainly in the field of Oncology, she was able to successfully teach herself Critical Care and become an educator in various areas, including 3N, the ICU, the ED, and the Cardiac Cath lab. Her knowledge of the competencies in these areas made it possible for her to teach and develop many new nurses in these areas.
Terri has precepted many advanced practice RNs and guided them in deciding what their area of research focus would be. She supported these RNs throughout their ongoing education and encouraged their development in addition to the profession of nursing.
Over the years, Terri created many new programs at NYP Westchester through an identified need for education. She researched the topic, found available resources, and delivered the material to staff to improve the quality of care provided at the bedside.
Terri has also served as a role model to new educators and leadership. She has made herself available to coach new educators and PCDs always advocating for high quality Nursing practice and advancing the profession.
Terri actively engages staff nurses to ensure they understand concepts.
For these reasons, I think it is appropriate to honor Terri’s distinguished nursing career with a DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award.
