She was determined to get my baby delivered safely. She showed her compassion through constant reassurance of the plan of care.
Carolyn truly embodies ALL of Bayhealth's core values. As a patient, nurse, and Bayhealth employee myself, our organization is lucky to have her on our team.

I had a routine induction for the birth of my son, and Carolyn was my primary nurse. The unknown of this delivery process was scary, and I met with challenges along the way. Carolyn was my advocate, my educator, and my biggest fan!

She was determined to get my baby delivered safely. She showed her compassion through constant reassurance of the plan of care. Reminding me that they were keeping a close eye from all angles and checking in on how I was feeling often. Carolyn was kind enough to educate me along the way about what each alarm, fetal monitor strip, and intervention option meant. She knew I was out of my element and wanted to know more information in detail. I respect that she took the time to do this, which relieved so much stress during the process. Carolyn showed accountability for her professionalism within her role. She was quick to notify the doctor of changes and be prompt with the coordination of care as well as supplies needed for interventions. Within the 12 hours we were together, I heard multiple team members thank Carolyn and tell her how much they loved working with her (Anesthesia, MDs, nurses, and CNAs).

Out of the five core values, Carolyn embodies the value of integrity the most. She was honest, trustworthy and always remembered she was caring for myself, my son, and my family. My birth plan only included an epidural. Carolyn was quick to call anesthesia when it was appropriate. However, an emergency arose, and they were no longer readily available. As a nurse, I'm sure she was dreading the conversation, but Carolyn maintained her integrity and kept me in the loop to decrease my fear. Ultimately, everything worked out perfectly!

From the moment Carolyn assumed care of me, she demonstrated proactive nursing! At times, this feels like a lost art. She showed initiative to create a safe and speedy delivery. She proactively titrated my medications, advocated for mobility and repositioning, and recommended different interventions ahead of time to anticipate need. When the process felt stalled, she stayed motivated to see my delivery through, even telling me she'd stay an extra 4 hours.
