What Ben did touched us all. He was determined to give the family the little bit of peace and closure they needed to begin their healing process.
Ben Coe demonstrated the Culture of Yes when providing closure and care for grieving parents. Ben was the primary nurse in a trauma in which an 18-year-old man passed away after a motor vehicle accident. After the patient's body had been transferred to the morgue, the parents came to the Emergency Department distraught. Ben spoke with them and the ED attending, who was present during the trauma in a consult room, explaining how he was brought in, what actions were performed, and that he was still being well-cared for after his soul had left. Ben was visibly upset, and he wanted to do something to help them as they asked to see the body. Despite push-back from the House Manager, Ben made arrangements for a transporter to bring the body back to the chapel; he arranged the environment and made it as suitable as possible to support the grieving parents. He stayed with them the entire time of their visit, explaining and comforting them, and then he arranged for the same transporter to take the body back to the morgue.
