In a time where so many nurses are burnt out and feel the fatigue that the last several years have caused, Toni has only increased her dedication and efforts and had an even more positive impact on those around he
I have had the honor of working with Toni intermittently through several different roles over the last 10 years, so I feel very confident to tell you just how deserving she is of this award. Toni is admired by every nurse she calls her peers for her knowledge, tact, and ability to lead by example. When I first met Toni, she was a Progressive Care nurse that every new nurse would eventually look up to. Every staff member on the floor would seek her out for guidance, and she would gladly share her knowledge. She does not boast or brag; instead, she leads quietly, using her own behavior. She always behaves with the utmost professionalism, kindness, and consideration for the patient, always coming first. She could be in a room full of disgruntled employees or patients and she has the ability to diffuse the anger or hostility by redirecting the focus on what is truly important, steering the conversation to a more effective direction. I think everyone around her at some point senses this about her. This trait has made her an excellent person to bounce ideas or concerns off of, especially ones you may have wanted to handle professionally but weren't sure how. This has also led her to her current role as a home care nurse. Now she has a role that makes her leadership more evident on paper, however Toni herself is the only factor that has strengthened her dedication and contributions to her team. It is a part of her job description now to train the new staff members; however, she takes it upon herself to mentor them, offer a listening ear to them, and check in on them on a regular basis. These "small" acts of kindness and consideration have a big effect on staff morale, especially in the world of Home Care nursing, where many nurses feel isolated. Toni has always gone the extra mile for her patients and her coworkers for as long as I have known her. In a time where so many nurses are burnt out and feel the fatigue that the last several years have caused, Toni has only increased her dedication and efforts and had an even more positive impact on those around her. Every department in this health system would be so lucky to have someone like Toni, and she should certainly be celebrated.

Toni is an amazing nurse. She has taken the lead in educating and precepting field staff. The field staff all look to Toni for guidance and advice. Toni jumps in whenever she sees a problem so that she can correct the problem and educate staff in order to avoid similar issues in the future. Toni is an asset to the home care leadership team.

I have had the opportunity to work very closely with Toni over the past couple of months during my transition into a nursing role. From my first interaction with her, I knew that Toni has admirable compassion and concern for both patients and new employees. She is very thorough in her nursing assessments, asking the pertinent questions, reviewing medications and ensuring patients know why/when they should be taking. She is always doing what is right for the patient, every time! She has an abundance of patience; taking her time with each and every patient and employee; taking the time to explain, and working at their skill level. She is respected among her colleges who entrust that she will address their questions/concerns. She is honest and forthcoming, always providing optimal support. When it was announced that Joint Commission was surveying, Toni’s response, “We’ve got this team!” She is always cheering on her colleges on and always finds the positive in any situation. Toni is a member of many teams throughout the health system, always providing valuable input with her wealth of knowledge. She is relied on to provide education, training, orientation, hands-on skills days, supervision visits, developing education material, etc. I have nothing but positive things to say about Toni. She is definitely a very valuable asset to MyMichigan and is well deserving of any award!

Toni exemplifies MyMichigan behavior standards by always demonstrating kindness and professionalism. She models excellent clinical skills, which she is eager to share with all staff. Toni looks for ways to process improve and is an advocate for both staff she serves and patients alike. She is a breath of fresh air.
