My dad had been in and out of the hospital for 3 months with ER visits, observations, surgeries, and more, so my family and I came across many nurses during our time with him. Isabel Young was his nurse twice throughout his stay and made a lasting impact. Isabel was bright, intelligent, clear, kind, and compassionate. Isabel was kind to my dad, made sure to always speak loudly and annunciate since he is hard of hearing, and made him feel cared for and heard when he had concerns. She was very confident professionally and always knew exactly what to do next as part of his care plan or would find out and promptly return with answers and actions. From my perspective as family, Isabel always took the time to say hello to us, make us feel comfortable, answer our questions, or even proactively explain things as they went on. My dad went through a very difficult surgery and came out with six chest tubes in him still not awake yet, but Isabel managed to really make us feel that everything would be okay even during a time when we didn’t feel so sure. In those raw and tender moments, we were happy she was there. She made a huge difference for us as family members going through the process as well. Isabel also made an effort to stop by and say hello to my dad during additional hospital stays, even when she wasn’t his nurse. Isabel is amazing, and we are so grateful for everything she has done for all of us.
