Molly took the initiative to place a "Pause to Care" sign on the patient's door and masks with a clear window were then placed in the patient's room and in the cabinet outside of the patient's room.
Molly was assigned to care for a 10 year old boy who had been admitted on our unit for 7 days. He has a past medical history of being hard of hearing and uses hearing aids, however he still has difficulty hearing even with the hearing aids. The patient was on mask precautions, and while the patient was on our unit, Molly noticed that staff had not been using the masks with the clear window on this patient, which would be best practice. Per family, the patient is not fluent in sign language but does know how to lip read. There was an FYI in this patient's chart that he had previously bit staff members while they were placing an IV. Molly paused to care and thought that maybe the patient had no idea what was even happening during that procedure and was scared.

Molly took the initiative to place a "Pause to Care" sign on the patient's door and masks with a clear window were then placed in the patient's room and in the cabinet outside of the patient's room.

I just want this story to be heard because accessibility to communication for our patients on this unit should be a priority.

Molly ALWAYS provides superior care to her patients and all of the patients she comes in contact with during her shifts. She consistently goes above and beyond in her care, and I want her to be recognized for this.
