Sarah quickly remembered his likes and dislikes and was an astute reader of his nonverbal body language.
It would be difficult to pick just one story to demonstrate how important Sarah's top-notch care was over several days/weeks of our family member's stay in the PICU. Her nursing care was always on time and timely and delivered with professionalism and cheerfulness. Importantly, she was quick to assess status changes and bring her observations and clinical suggestions to the entire PICU team. She was a great patient advocate.
One of the very helpful things she did was to place a sticky note in the chart to remind the PICU team to include the family in daily rounds. This helped so much for us to understand the course of his treatment and to be involved in ongoing decision making. Sarah always made each of us feel heard, and she was effortless in communicating changes in medications and treatments. Her calm and concise education was so, so helpful. The most amazing thing was watching her build a relationship and rapport with a teenage boy who, even in the best of times, is a man of very few words. She quickly remembered his likes and dislikes and was an astute reader of his nonverbal body language. She worked with the team to plan care around his favorite TV program and also for the time of the day when he had the most energy. Sarah Judge is Awesome!
