She stayed consistent and attentive the entire time. As the process progressed, she was supportive in the care of my wife, her needs, and quickly and thoroughly addressed concerns and questions.
Vivian was the nurse with us throughout the whole labor and delivery process. I didn’t know what to expect going in as the father-to-be or my wife, but Vivian was exceptional in her duties and truly above all we could have expected. The two defining things that set her apart from any of the others who attended this process were:
1) She stayed consistent and attentive the entire time. As the process progressed, she was supportive in the care of my wife, her needs, and quickly and thoroughly addressed concerns and questions. Then, for the main event, when it was time to push, which is where she created the greatest opportunity of all, she briefed me on coaching the labor for my wife, helped me get involved with her, and created an environment where I was, at the beginning reluctant, to then wanting and was fully involved with the active labor and coaching. She was pivotal in the quicker delivery and calming of me and my wife, which allowed us to focus on the pushing. I can’t word this as well as I’d like to express the incredible job she did that allowed us to really all work as a team, to be able to take charge of the coaching while being coached gently by her, for the experience of my child’s birth to be nothing short of safe, quick (1st baby) and an incredible experience.
2) She was able to leave to go home during the birth, but she stayed for continuity; it was clear she was in this to the end, managing the process, which seemed very crazy but also so delicate. Vivian is clearly extraordinary in her job, her passion, dedication and commitment to the patient, medical team, and seeing the process through set her apart in so many ways.
