Amanda was caring for a patient in the ED who was being discharged to hospice. While caring for the patient, Amanda learned that the patient’s husband was currently admitted to a hospital unit and that he was going to be placed in another facility and would not return home. When Amanda heard this information, she recognized that both being in WellSpan York Hospital would be the last opportunity for them to see each other due to the patient’s hospice status and declining health.

Despite Amanda having multiple patients under her care, she took the time to locate the patient’s husband and coordinate with that unit how to get her patient to be able to see her husband for a final time.

After coordinating for them to see each other, Amanda was met with a few roadblocks getting the patient transferred into a wheelchair. She did not allow that to deter her.

Amanda recognized the importance that this situation held for the patient, and despite the extensive amount of time and resources required, she was unstoppable in her pursuit to allow her patient to see her husband one last time.
