Michelle models the definition of (he)art and science of nursing.
Michelle serves as the regional trauma coordinator in the OK region. She developed the initial model for the ED patient charge calculator that was adopted by the system. Her work with the trauma board has allowed SSM to capture trauma funds that would have been lost otherwise.

Michelle was born a 'saint'; she began her career in the ED at Midtown and has only had a short period of 'parole' during her time there. During her time at SSM, she has assisted with policy writing and evaluation and advocated on behalf of patients and nurses. She often is the 'source of truth' for the ED: "You should go ask Michelle; she will know."

She supports all of the OK ERs and coordinates the multiple ED executive meetings. Michelle helps to coordinate supplies and reports for all 9 ERs in our region. Her knowledge of EPIC reports and data is an amazing asset to all ED managers. She assists with annual skills fairs and other training opportunities.

Michelle will own her product! When working on any report, submission or project, she is always very detailed in her work. If she makes a mistake, she is often the first to note it. If errors are brought to her attention, she accepts feedback and works to make the correction asap. It was recently noted that through her chart auditing, patients were being incorrectly coded from the HPs to the Midtown Campus. Michelle worked to have this process corrected.

Michelle sets the example of what it means to be a 'Saint.' Michelle models the definition of (he)art and science of nursing. She uses critical thinking in her daily role while going out of her way to display compassion and kindness to staff, providers, and patients. Michelle takes responsibility for her actions and mentors others as they work to strengthen their own nursing skills.

Michelle is a pillar of the ED and has worked at Saints for her entire nursing career. She is an amazing mentor, counselor, nurse, and friend to those she encounters. Her work with the trauma board and fund is invaluable to our organization and patients. During her career, she has been able to influence patients, nurses, and providers in developing their roles. She is part of the foundation that makes our ED teams a success. Life would be a lot harder without Michelle in it.
