During leadership rounds today, I visited a patient who has frequent admissions, and his daughter is always at the bedside. This patient cannot speak for himself, and he doesn’t even wake up. During every stay, the daughter requests Gesha to be his nurse. Today she was in tears telling me that last night was the first night in a week she’s felt comfortable leaving her father because Gesha was here. She said it is not just her nursing “skills” but her compassion, her skills, her cleanliness, everything that makes her superb.

Gesha recently trained a nurse, and this daughter says she is 100% confident in his care because his demeanor follows that of Gesha. She told me to do whatever I had to do in my power to keep Gesha as a nurse here and move her up into a leader on the unit. To hear this emotion in her voice and to see the emotion in her eyes, made my heart explode. She said Gesha cares for my father the way she would her own, and I have 100% trust when she’s here!
