Emily went down to the morgue and made sure she got a fingerprint of the wife to make this gift for the family so that they can have matching gift pairs from both husband and wife.
In the ICU we have a unique gift for loved ones after a patient has passed from their medical complication. It consists of the last heart rhythm EKG strip, a fingerprint on nice paper, along with other mementos that are sentimental of the patient and give back to the loved ones who are grieving a sudden loss. These gifts are designed to show compassion from our staff and to show that we care even in post-death situations while giving a bit of comfort to the loved ones.
There was a big field fire in March where a wife and husband were brought into ED. The wife expired in the ED and was placed in the morgue right away. The husband made it to ICU. He also expired later. Emily made sure the family received this loving gift from the ICU from the husband to family after he expired. What makes her stand out is, she went down to the morgue and made sure she got a fingerprint of the wife to make this gift for the family so that they can have matching gift pairs from both husband and wife. This night the ICU had 4 deaths and Emily made sure the staff was aware of our unique gift box that we can hand make these gifts for the families and how it's all placed together in a nice way. This is not mandatory to do, so for her to make sure compassion is at the forefront of our care makes her a true DAISY Nurse.
