Her passion, drive, and positive energy are truly infectious and help to light the flames of her fellow team.
Nursing Professional Development Practitioners, a mold that doesn’t fit everyone. A vital role, inside and outside the hospital walls, that incorporates the passion for teaching and being innovative and caring for patients and their fellow team members. This is someone who leads by example, strives to make a difference, and ensures that everyone has the knowledge to care for the community at large. When I reflect on an educator who exemplifies these qualities, it’s hard not to think of Rachel Wyckoff. Her passion, drive, and positive energy are truly infectious and help to light the flames of her fellow team. She is someone who will help without hesitation, despite her forever growing “to-do” list, all while promoting an environment that gets team members and her fellow educators motivated to learn, teach, and just overall be an excellent educator. One moment that really stands out is the time that Rachel had the thought of incorporating “On the Fly” mock code blues after learning about it from a conference poster presentation she attended. She was passionate about wanting to provide this to her teams, especially with the growing number of CNRs and experienced nurses who lacked the experience and comfort during a code blue situation. Once that thought was there, she RAN with it! We collaborated on how to bring this thought to life, and with her determination, she sought out her own personal resources, creating a simulated headboard so we could make our mock code blues on the go throughout the hospital. The excitement she displayed seeing it come to life was an awesome moment for her and the team, as it was well received. It is now an educational teaching tool that she can continue to use and share with her fellow education team. It’s this passion and motivation to be innovative and think outside the box that makes Rachel a DAISY Nurse.
