I came into contact with nurse Katelyn when I was admitted. My first experience with Katelyn's kindness, compassion, and empathic nature was when I was given the devastating news of needing immediate open heart surgery. This news was one of the most frightening moments of my life. Being told, I needed this surgery and that the chances of survival were 50/50 chance and completely sent me on an emotional rollercoaster. As I was in my most vulnerable state, Katelyn was right there, letting me know everything was all right. She was comforting, she even got on the phone and spoke to my family members as she was wheeling me into the OR explaining to them what was happening every step of the way. My surgery was canceled that night and Katelyn stayed at my bedside until my family member showed up.

After my surgery the following day I was transferred to the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit in a induced coma for the next 7 weeks. My family member explained to me when I became awake that Katelyn would take time of her busy schedule to come check in on me and sit with me some days. This act was truly remarkable because I was no longer her patient on her unit and it showed me how much Katelyn cared for me as a person. I was then transferred to another unit, the Respiratory Care Unit, and again, Katelyn was there to check in on me. Two weeks later, I was transferred back to 4 Atrium, and Katelyn was my nurse again; this made me happy and comfortable because I knew that care, compassion, and patience were coming from her. All I can say is WOW. I truly believe Katelyn advanced as a nurse because she cares. 

Her reputation as an outstanding nurse will forever echo in the hospital's hallways and among the patients who've had the pleasure of being under your care.
