I was vulnerable, and she made me feel like I was heard and that she was there to help me through the pain and any questions I had. Thank you, Mel, for this experience.
Mel was my labor and delivery nurse for the birth of my son. She is outstanding! She did such an amazing job explaining things to me and helping me through my labor, the pain, and the delivery. Specifically, as labor progressed, my baby’s heart rate dipped at times during contractions. Also, the baby's heart rate monitor had difficulty finding and keeping track of the baby’s heart rate. Mel literally kept having to find the right spot and had to hold pressure with the monitor. She stood right by my side for countless minutes/hours just holding the baby heart rate monitor so that the OBGYN team could track baby’s heart rate. Mel stayed in my room and by my side for several hours… not sure if she even got a bathroom break for a while! She continued to care for baby and I after delivery, providing explanation with everything so that we knew what to expect. Mel also made an effort to come to check in on me and baby the following day when we were on the post-partum unit during her next shift just to see how we were doing and to say hi. Mel is an exceptional nurse: kind, compassionate, personable, patient, and dedicated to her job. She is very much deserving of this award. I feel so fortunate that she was my nurse and helped me bring my baby into this world. I cannot express how much her care meant to me and how I truly felt that she cared for my baby and me. I am forever grateful for the excellent care she gave us!

I gave birth to my baby boy and Mel was absolutely exceptional at her job and making me feel comfortable throughout my labor. This was my first child and I wasn't sure what to expect for pain and comfort and Mel exceeded my expectations for care when she held my hand, helped me breathe through contractions, get back on my feet after labor, help me to the bathroom, and much more. I was vulnerable, and she made me feel like I was heard and that she was there to help me through the pain and any questions I had. Thank you, Mel, for this experience. It won't be forgotten, and I will always be thankful that nurses like you are there for new moms such as myself.
