I am one of the La Mirada Home Health RNs. I went to visit a patient last week. He is elderly, legally blind, diabetic, has end-stage renal disease, and is receiving Dialysis. While at this house the patient shared a story with me about a male nurse that had been visiting him for his wound care. This patient proceeded to tell me that this nurse had asked him if he had already had lunch for that day; the patient responded that he had not had lunch yet because he had just gotten back from Dialysis. The nurse proceeded to offer to cook him lunch. The patient said he declined, but the nurse told him, "I have time. I can make something for you before I go see my next patient." The patient was very appreciative of the offer. Working in Home Health, we come across many difficult/sad home situations, and some nurses become desensitized after a while, but Elmer embodies PIH's motto of Patients First and going above and beyond. Elmer is a very hard-working, gentle, caring, and passionate nurse. It makes me feel proud to work by his side and be a team member of La Mirada Home Health family.
