Zahra not only provided the excellent care we had come to know from the staff on the unit but also paid great attention to detail. Because of this, she was able to pick up on issues before they became a greater problem.

For example, Zahra had examined my husband prior to leaving the unit for surgery and noted the changes quickly upon his return. She noted issues with his IV immediately upon his return. Because she knew her patient, she was able to begin the care needed to prevent further skin damage at the site. Another time, returning from surgery, she caught early signs (rash) of an allergic reaction from an antibiotic he had started receiving. Because of her attention to and assessment of her patient, she was able to get him the treatment he needed. Zahra also noted a variation in arm size, which led to finding a small clot in his left arm. This attention to detail can make great changes in the outcome of a patient’s health. Assessment is so very important. These attributes as well as the wonderful nursing care in general he received from Zahra make her an exceptional nurse.

Zahra also cares about the family of her patient. She asked about our needs (as did other staff) to make sure we were comfortable and taking care of ourselves so we could care for our family member later. We are so appreciative of all the care we received while in SICU. Zahra was awesome. Thank you so much!
