I was feeling very demoralised and vulnerable after my first 6 hours in the early delivery suite. I am a doctor myself and can understand what good care and communication should look like, which can sometimes make it hard to be a patient myself. We barely had anyone checking in on us through the night, and I was in a lot of pain. Everything changed when Kelsey took over on the day shift. She explained everything with great care and compassion. She was with me every step of the way. She was professional but so warm. She used my name throughout the delivery, which really made me feel seen and heard as an individual. She is an exemplary midwife. I think Kelsey and her colleague are some of the finest NHS staff I’ve ever been treated by, and they made quite a traumatic delivery, something very positive for me and my baby. I will never forget the experience I had, and I am very grateful to have had both of them as my midwives.
