Amanda gives exceptional care to every patient she has, and in this specific situation, she provided stellar care, built exceptional rapport with a patient and his family, and demonstrated what it meant to be a truly exceptional nurse in every regard of patient care. Even when this patient was not assigned to her, the family would seek her out just to chat or thank her for the wonderful care she provided to the patient when she was assigned to him. This patient had heart surgery and was on our unit for over a month after a rocky recovery. Amanda had been taking care of him since his early postoperative days and put in several nights worth of hard work to save this patient's life, all while providing a professional and comforting attitude to this patient's family, which they quickly took note of since many of the family members worked in the medical field. This patient and his family grew to trust, appreciate, and actively seek Amanda out, whether it was just to chat, or to request her help, advice, and care, which she always delivered with a quality and passion that far exceeds expectations. Amanda has wanted a DAISY Award since she first started nursing school, and I feel that nobody in my unit deserves more than she does.
