She treated him with so much dignity and respect, and as a mother of a special human being, that is all we ask for.
My son was in the hospital for 11 days, and we had the pleasure of having this nurse as ours. My son, T, is 32 years old and has Down Syndrome. The first time his nurse came into the room, she went straight to him, introduced herself, and asked was there anything she could do for him. She asked questions directly to him and if needed, I backed it up. She treated him with so much dignity and respect, and as a mother of a special human being, that is all we ask for.
He had to have an MRI done, and he was scared, so she asked me to go, too. She constantly asked T if he was okay, did he need anything, and could she do anything for him. She helped him in any and every way. She was so patient, understanding, and kind—she was constantly consoling him, putting him at ease, and being ever so patient for the answers to the questions she would ask him.
She has a born compassion for her job as a nurse. The kindness, compassion, and love she gives is so real and comes straight from her heart. She always had a smile. When we returned to the room from the MRI, T.J. was very proud of himself- she was high-fiving him, and the next thing I saw was her and T DANCING! He was laughing and smiling so big that, of course, I had to join in. So there the 3 of us were, in his room, dancing in celebration of his accomplishment. I, as a mother, have danced many times in the celebration of T’s milestones, but that day of dancing with his nurse will forever hold a special place in my heart. God knew what he was doing when he led her life to nursing!
