I had the pleasure of working alongside one of the best hospice/end-of-life care nurses ever! Let it be known that this is not her official training field. She is an RN with Med/Surg experience for the last three years. I observed her work tirelessly and compassionately to advocate for her patient by coordinating her care across the board to transition from full code to allow natural death. She spoke with hospice nurses, MDs, and family members. She was so concerned and sweet towards both her patient and family. She had a visiting priest to the room for anointing of the sick and prayer over the patient. The family joined with the Nurse, and we all prayed the Lord's prayer.

Claudia is exactly the type of nurse this award was set up to recognize. She also used her cell phone to play soothing and calming music for the patient. She also brought a fan in the room to create white noise. Claudia really went above and beyond for her patient for over 24 hours. I will end this nomination by stating that I am a 30-year veteran nurse. It is hard to impress me in the nursing world, but if all of our new nurses had her skills, attention to detail, and a servant's heart to care for their patients, then nursing in the next generation would be just fine.
