I have seen Bob ease the tension of anxious patients with his kindness, humor, and candor on countless occasions. On top of having an excellent bedside manner with our patients, the direct care he provides is excellent, competent, and watchful.
Bob Koven is a valuable asset to our unit and to the VA Hospital. He is a valuable asset to his coworkers and managers but most importantly, to our Veterans. Bob is a DAISY Nurse for his many long years and consistent record of excellent care provided to our Veterans.

Mr. Koven has an excellent rapport with our Veterans and provides hospitality with a great sense of humor that is a rare and dynamic combination. This is appreciated not only by his patients but also by his coworkers. Being a retired Army Veteran himself, Bob is able to connect with our patients like few others can. I have seen Bob ease the tension of anxious patients with his kindness, humor, and candor on countless occasions. On top of having an excellent bedside manner with our patients, the direct care he provides is excellent, competent, and watchful. He frequently prevents patients from deteriorating in their condition due to the thorough care he provides and the great communication skills he has with the rest of the interdisciplinary team.

Mr. Koven is a great mentor to new employees and seasoned nurses. Our managers trust him to train new employees (often new nurses) to provide competent and quality care to our Veterans. Bob has trained countless nurses. He typically builds trusting professional relationships with the nurses he orients and continues to be available to help them when called upon, even after they are on their own. He is a valuable resource of information for coworkers and patients alike.

Bob is a great team player. He is always willing to help a struggling coworker with a problem. He is always willing to lend a helping hand with transferring a patient or helping clean a patient up. He frequently makes himself available to help other coworkers in countless ways. He is also a great encouragement to his coworkers, offering advice or consolation when someone is struggling.

Bob's knowledge and ability are immeasurable in our mission to serve our Veterans. His ability to provide competent care, attention to detail, and ability to think and act quickly have saved many lives.

I am proud to work alongside Bob Koven and am proud to nominate him for the DAISY Award.

P.S. It's really cool to see a patient return to our unit after years have gone by, and they see Bob and say, "Hey Bob! I remember you were my nurse six years ago when I had my other knee done and you were awesome!"
