She understood my fear of needles and assured me it was very common and didn't judge me for it.
Heading into my surgery, I was extremely nervous about both the surgery itself and getting the IV started because I have tiny veins. I told the Nurse, Jayne Stortz, that I had some traumatic experiences with needles in the past. Jayne did everything she could to make sure I was comfortable and she kept talking to me while I was waiting to keep me distracted. She understood my fear of needles and assured me it was very common and didn't judge me for it. In fact, she spent ample time trying to find the best vein so she wouldn't need to insert a new IV. She also took a thorough health history and put certain key indications on the IV pole so everyone was aware. She answered all of my questions and complied with all of the requests I made. She was so kind, calm, and compassionate that I was happy to see her in post-op as I was coming out of anesthesia too. There, she helped me get back up on my feet and got me anything I requested without hesitation. I could tell she was genuinely happy to help, which made me feel so much better as a patient. I've had many surgeries with Henry Ford, but Jayne was truly a standout Nurse in my care.
