It is through personal investments that we truly make a difference in the lives of others. Scott Bates genuinely cares about the profession of nursing as well as the individual associates he touches. He encourages all his leaders to bring creativity and innovation to the forefront of all they do. He has dedicated his time as a leader to improve the overall healthcare environment and instill behaviors in individuals to become the better leader within to drive the future of healthcare. One of Scott’s leaders describe him as “compassionate in his daily work. "He is also lively, yet assertive, who adds positivity to my day to day.” Another says, “Scott has impacted me as a leader in multiple ways- one by always being a resource for me when I have questions, and he encourages me in my new role and gives me advice on how to handle difficult situations.” Scott is a key member of the system PACE Council and has a pivotal role in the development and implementation of the care delivery model not only for University but for the healthcare system. He shows enthusiasm and passion about transforming our care delivery model not only for our patients and families but also for our nursing team. Scott invested hours of planning and preparation to ensure a successful go live. He has engaged the team through his consistent rounding, coaching and mentoring. He extends himself to other MLH facilities, sharing his passion for the care model and compassion for the nursing team. Scott brings laughter and joy into our daily work and to support his positivity- “Where can you find Scott?” 1. Taking a new interim leader out to eat then sightseeing Memphis 2. Cutting Magnolia leaves for a table arrangement to honor our educators and residents 3. On the elevator with a patient assisting with discharges 4. On the road to pick up cake because he finds out its someone’s birthday 5. Delivering treats to the teams on Saturday and Sunday 6. At recruitment events- a place where his light shines brightly 7. At his desk writing thank you notes to associates 8. Anywhere and he will be talking about “opportunities at MUH” 9. Getting into his car parked in the Associate of the Month spot 10. In the hearts of all who know him.
