Jan would come in and sit with me to make sure I was OK emotionally. I have never seen a nurse go that much out of her way to care for the patient and family.
First of all, I want to say I am impressed by all the nurses in the Hospice unit; my Dad received the BEST CARE. Bringing my Dad to the VA was the best decision. I don’t have a story to tell you about Jan but I have an emotion… compassion. Jan has HEART. She was not only a caretaker to my Dad but to me and my mom as well. She knew the last stages and was able to explain the phase my Dad went through, so I understood them.

Jan would come in and sit with me to make sure I was OK emotionally. I have never seen a nurse go that much out of her way to care for the patient and family. During the day shift, I wasn’t there as often, but all my mom would tell me was whether Jan had done this or not. She made sure my Dad was fed and comfortable. When I arrived at 5:00, Jan came right in and updated me and advised me what my Dad needed as her shift ended. She understood my family’s needs and accommodated us. My mom and I felt we were ‘special.’ We definitely wouldn’t have made it through this hard time without her support.

The impact Jan has left on me is so strong. She will FOREVER be in my heart. I hope Jan continues in her Hospice career and helps future families the same way she has helped mine. THANK YOU, JAN!! You make a difference in this world, and you are a special person.
